Syrencot wedding venue Evie & Jai

Bride and groom confetti moment outside the Glasshouse at Syrencot

Syrencot is a secluded country estate in Wiltshire, combining elegant architecture with rustic charm to create a truly unique wedding venue. I had the pleasure of photographing Evie and Jai’s Syrencot wedding — a day that blended cultures, families, and traditions into something completely unforgettable. Some weddings follow a simple structure, one ceremony and one celebration.

Evie and Jai’s Syrencot wedding was not one of those weddings; and that’s exactly what made it so special. Their day unfolded across two ceremonies — a lively Tamil ceremony followed by a classic civil ceremony — surrounded by music, family, and a wedding party big enough to fill the Billiard Room wall-to-wall. It was vibrant, emotional, and just the right amount of beautifully chaotic to keep everyone smiling.

Evie and Jai knew they didn’t want a rigid, predictable timeline. They wanted a wedding that reflected who they are — fun, heartfelt, family-driven, and full of personality. The mix of cultures and traditions gave the day a rhythm of its own. From the colours and rituals of the Tamil ceremony to the elegant civil ceremony later in the Glasshouse, every part of the day felt natural, unpolished, and wonderfully real.

Syrencot wedding: Documenting the day

My dad, Peter Haken, joined me again as the videographer for Evie and Jai’s Syrencot wedding. As a team, we captured every moment — from the early-morning bustle in the Billiard Room to the evening dancefloor. Peter runs Swanky Wed, and working together means couples get a complete visual story that blends photo and video seamlessly throughout the day.

With Evie arriving at 8am alongside fourteen bridesmaids, a maid of honour, and her mother-in-law, the morning preparations were electric. Jai arrived at the same time with his groomsmen and best man, splitting off to prepare for the Tamil ceremony setup and music checks. The atmosphere felt like a festival — people everywhere, colour everywhere, excitement everywhere. The first ceremony began at 10:30, filled with prayers, petals, and the warmth of the Tamil traditions that mean so much to Jai’s family.

After canapés, coffee, and a quick room reset, the energy shifted again as the couple prepared for their civil ceremony. With Evie in the Billiard Room and Jai in Room 2, you could feel the nerves and anticipation balancing perfectly with the laughter spilling out from both sides. By the time 2pm arrived, the Glasshouse was ready — petals, candles, name cards, and soft décor waiting for the next chapter of the day.

One of my favourite parts of documenting their wedding was the atmosphere after the ceremonies. Drinks began to flow, music from Elliot (one of the groomsmen) set the tone, and the estate filled with the sound of family catching up and children darting between guests. The double canapés, the unique menu choices, and the personal touches — from speeches by Gena, Reece, and Jai’s sisters to the tiered cake later in the evening — made the entire celebration feel deeply personal and beautifully thought out.

As an Oxfordshire wedding photographer who loves photographing venues with character, a Syrencot wedding is a dream. The flow between the House, the Billiard Room, the Glasshouse, and the Farmshed gives the whole day a sense of movement and story. And with a crowd as lively as Evie and Jai’s, there was never a dull moment. From the 8am preparations to the 8:30pm evening food (featuring vegan pizza and sausage rolls — an elite choice), every detail added texture to their story.

If you’re looking for a Wiltshire or Oxfordshire wedding photographer who can capture the energy, the emotion, and the beautiful chaos of your day, get in touch. Whether you’re planning a cultural fusion celebration like Evie & Jai’s or a classic countryside wedding, I’d love to help tell your story. You also can’t beat a Syrencot wedding….
